Vogue Vixen For my last and final column, I’ve decided to shed some light into what makes me tick rather than give you anymore advice. So, here it goes: I love that fashion is more than the clothes on your back, but a statement of who you are. My favorite designer is Oscar de la Renta, Anna Wintour is my inspiration, someday I will own a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s, Audrey Hepburn’s style will never fade, and I have yet to attend a real fashion show. I have been interested in fashion ever since I can remember. I found myself drawing designs in the margins of my notebook during class and desperately wanting to go to fashion school. Since that idea was out of the question for my parents and I was never artistically skilled, I found my passion in writing. From there, I knew I could take my fashion career in a different direction. Whether you have appreciated my advice or not, I hope to become a professional in this area. I will be traveling to London in the fall to work for a magazine, hopefully a fashion-oriented one. From there, I’d like to travel to all the fashion capitals of the world: Paris, Milan and maybe someday end up in New York City. Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Fashion is all around us and can truly inspire great ideas. I find no difference between Picasso as a legendary artist and Alexander McQueen as a designer. They both inspired great work that changed the way people thought and lived. Since this is my first time writing for fashion, I realize my advice isn’t groundbreaking. What I had hoped to accomplish through this column was a bit about who I am, how I could help the fashion-deprived generation of this campus, and just to appreciate the creativity of fashion. We all express our creativity in different ways, whether it’s a business proposal, a poem, a thesis or even a newspaper column. So, perhaps I lied and will leave you with some advice — don’t dismiss fashion as useless. I have truly enjoyed this semester, frantically trying to figure out what to write about each week. I loved being able to research different fashions and styles. It was a great excuse to go to the mall. Most importantly, I’ve appreciated your feedback. Whether you loved it or hated it, I feel proud to have been able to give you something to look forward to each week. Good luck in all your fashion ventures next year and as always, stay stylish. This is Vogue Vixen saying “au revoir.” |
