Letter from the Editor As the year comes to a close and graduation nears, I feel it best to express my dissatisfaction with Parking Services. Over the years I have found their parking passes to be absurdly priced, as most SUNY schools and even private universities in the Rochester area charge $10 for a parking ticket. Brockport charges $25, which is one-third of the cost to buy a ticket for an entire semester. I would know this as I was tricked into buying one for the spring 2008 semester. In early February, when snow was still on the ground and the sidewalks lay thick with ice, I incurred a knee injury, thus making it extremely difficult to navigate my way around campus on crutches. I went to Parking Services in hopes of seeing if they offered any type of temporary pass for situations like this. Lisa Kifer from “customer service” — although I’m still trying to figure out what service she exactly provided me with — said she could only give me a temporary pass if I bought a pass for the semester. I asked if the full amount of the pass could be refunded and she said it would not be a problem. I even showed her my medical forms and doctor’s note. Three weeks later as the snow began to melt, I went to return the parking pass, however Lisa was not there. Instead, Joan Consler told me she could not issue a refund, and even if she did it would be a mere $18 and some change while I paid about $60 for the pass. Now, I live next to Hartwell, so there is no need for me to have this pass. I also said this to Joan and she asked if I was sure. After breaking down into tears, she said she would issue me a $20 refund. I understand that I used the pass that I paid for, however, considering the circumstances I was promised a refund and was not given that refund. The parking services coordinator, Johnna Frosini, merely ignored me at the counter. After calling her about the issue, she said she would speak to Lisa the next day about what exactly was said. What a fair fight that was. I received an e-mail from Lisa saying she never said such a thing and hardly remembered me in the first place. Nice people. So, unfortunately, I am leaving this campus with a useless parking pass and $60 wasted. For those of you returning next year, save your money and a whole lot of stress. Get a bike. |
