Campus Talk More Campus Talk

Freshman year brings memories

I can’t believe it. Everyone said that it would go by faster than I could imagine, but I never really believed them. With the semester coming to a close, it is amazing how much has happened in my first year.

It seems like only a few weeks ago I was saying goodbye to all my high school friends, and packing up all of my belongings to head off to college. When I arrived at Brockport, full of nervous excitement, the new atmosphere was surprisingly easier to adapt to than I had thought.

One of the best things I did to start my life at college was to get involved in a few new clubs. Becoming a member of a new club gave me the opportunity to get a taste of something that I had never experienced before in my life.

After going to the recruitment meeting for the on-campus radio station, 89.1 The Point, I immediately knew that this was something of which I wanted to be a part. As it turns out, I have really had a blast being a part of The Point, and am looking forward to coming back for more in the fall.

My second involvement here at Brockport was related to my proposed major in journalism. First, let me explain that in my senior year of high school, I acquired a job writing articles for an online newspaper in my hometown about the happenings of the students’ busy lives. Therefore, my love of writing drew me to my major in journalism and this past fall, I began writing for The Stylus. When I first arrived at The Stylus, I had to decide in which section I would want to test the waters. My first instinct was to join the Sports and Campus Talk sections, but in the end I chose to simply concentrate on one section.

Campus Talk is a section of the newspaper that holds few rules; it’s a place where you can write about anything that might be on your mind any given week, or to write about a topic of which you are truly passionate. This type of freedom is one of the aspects that I love most about writing for Campus Talk and even though I am no longer a journalism major, I hope to continue with what has quickly become a passion of mine.

Overall, I sincerely enjoyed my first year here at The College At Brockport and am anxious to see what the next few years will bring. Also, I hope that they won’t go as fast as my freshman year has, but I know I’m only kidding myself when I say this. Nevertheless, I wish everyone the best on their final exams and hope you all have a wonderful summer!
