Men's lacrosse still searching for first SUNYAC win

By Jim Krencik

The College at Brockport men’s lacrosse team put themselves into a deficit against the Plattsburgh Cardinals that they couldn’t erase, and for the fifth time this season the Golden Eagles lost to a SUNYAC foe.

The Cardinals pulled away in the first half of a 18-12 victory. Brockport allowed five goals in the first period and seven more in the second while finding the net only four times — all in the second period.

The Golden Eagles got their offense started in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 8-6 in the final 30 minutes. Mike Tammaro, who has been a major scoring force in his freshman season, scored two goals and had two
assists. Fellow first-year player Mike Sanderson had two goals.

Senior Anthony Ventresca scored twice while assisting on another two tallies. Ventresca leads the Golden Eagles with 10 assists this season.

The loss was the fifth consecutive loss for Brockport after a 5-1 start to the season. The Golden Eagles will be unable to catch Potsdam for the fourth and final SUNYAC playoff spot, although with two games left on the schedule — Wednesday, April 23 at Morrisville and Saturday, April 26 at Oneonta — escaping the bottom of the conference is still a possibility.

Morrisville is tied with Brockport at 0-5 in conference play, but the Mustangs have allowed an average of 20 goals per SUNYAC game.

Oneonta is in a much better spot at 2-3, but they are also likely to miss the postseason.
