The men’s volleyball team participated in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association’s Club Conference Tournament April 5, earning them the title of second-best team on the East Coast.
The team lost to Virginia Tech in the Division II championship game, which was held at the University at Maryland.
Virginia Tech took a two-game win over the Golden Eagles, winning 25-20 and 25-14.
“It was tough after our final game against Virginia Tech, knowing that our season had come to an end and our three seniors had played their last game,” junior Timothy Price said.
Brockport advanced to the finals after beating Siena College in the semi-finals by a score of 25-18 and 29-27.
“Tony Musilli and Scott Kleinhans contributed defensively by putting up a large block against opposing hitters,” Price said.
Two Brockport players were named to the tournament’s all-star team. Terry Brogan and Price both represented Brockport in the team of seven.
Throughout the club conference play, Brockport was paired with teams including Salisbury and James Madison, winning the matches against both. The team achieved a 7-2 record going in to the playoffs, and were seeded at No. 2 after a first-round bye.
“Although we only returned three starters from last year, the team showed great chemistry and unity which ultimately helped in our success,” senior Dan Gallardo said. “This season was a total team effort and everyone should be very proud of our accomplishments.”
Brockport achieved an overall record of 39-6 this season.
“This season was definitely a success,” freshman Josh Rivet. “For being a small college with a relatively new team, it was crazy to end up in Maryland (at the regionals). Our team was very determined.”
The club sport has been recognized at Brockport since 2007.
