College honors student success By Amanda Seef The Honors and Awards Ceremony took place Friday, April 18. The annual ceremony aims to celebrate student success and honors the best and brightest of The College at Brockport. “Today, we honor our tremendously talented students who have demonstrated their outstanding academic and community-wide achievements,” a statement from President Halstead read. “Our students are rightfully proud of the great strides they have made and the awards that are bestowed upon them today. It is the quality of our students — as well as the quality of the faculty and staff — that ultimately determines the quality of our college.” Awards were given to students of outstanding achievement, Delta College, Honors Program, BASC, REOC and Collegewide Awards. These awards recognize academic excellence, leadership, high levels of motivation and outstanding work performance. The ceremony’s program also listed 70 students who were chosen to be a member of “The Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” The students have demonstrated academic excellence and service to their campus. The School of Arts and Performances, Letters and Sciences, and Professions presented awards to the scholars of each department. The President’s Citation was awarded to Michael Fickess. The award is the highest award for a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic merit, a strong record of cocurriciular activities, evidence of professional promise and significant contributions to The College at Brockport and its community. Fickess is a history major and anthropology minor, and has served a tour of duty in Iraq as a member of the New York Army National Guard. Emily Lottes earned The Marion Schrank Student Leadership Award. The award is given to an undergraduate student who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and their dedication to the aims of the college. In total, more than 150 students received awards and recognition at the annual Awards Ceremony. |
