Candlelight Vigil brings students together By Amanda Seef
Approximately 40 students came to a candlelight vigil remembering the 32 students and faculty lost in the April 16, 2007 tragedy at Virginia Tech. Brief speeches were presented at the vigil as the students took a moment to remember their peers in Virginia. “Bio chemists, physicists, political scientists, historians, international relation specialists, educators, athletes, resident assistants, distinguished scholars, Greeks, mothers, brothers, sisters … and most importantly, members of a college community that will never be the same,” Amanda Seef said. Brockport Student Government Treasurer Kyle Amendola also spoke at the vigil. “Today marks a day where we are can stop bereavement and continue to support the healing process,” Amendola said. “The process will take months, maybe even years, but it is evident that April 16 will no longer be ‘just a normal day.’ “We are not reflecting on the horrors of April 16. We are not focusing on the ‘what ifs,’ but rather the ‘what can be done.’ What can we do to help our peers, what can we do to ensure a safe, secure and inviting environment?” Orange and maroon ribbons were available for the day in various locations across campus. |
