Vogue Vixen: Spring sheds sunshine It’s time to break out the peep-toe heels and spaghetti straps. Spring has finally arrived. Since we’ve been deprived of the sun’s warmth for the past six months, we all want to show a bit more skin. But how much is too much? Well, if it’s 60 degrees out, I’d recommend capri pants and a short-sleeve shirt. But the minute the sun shines, it seems most girls delve into their shortest skirts and halters. So, save the backless tanks and short shorts for going or laying out. It may cool down at night, but trust me, when heading out to go dancing or a crowded party, you’ll be thankful you endured the cold walk there when you’re the only one not perspiring like crazy. Mini dresses and baby dolls are a perfect choice. If you can do it, leaving your hair curly and messy will give you an edgy look that will also look great throughout the night. No matter how much time you spend straightening your hair, it will probably frizz up against the heat of a crowded room. With curls, you will be able to look just as fabulous when you first left the house. Another look is wearing hair up entirely with a high-neck line. You won’t have to worry about making trips to the bathroom to check your hair. Instead, you’ll know it’s perfectly in place. For class, long flowy skirts are more appropriate with a silk blouse or cami. It’s not dressy enough to go out, but pretty enough to look great in class. As always, you can dress up any outfit with the right accessories. Old Navy has a wide selection of jewelry, flip flops and gladiator-inspired sandals for spring. As Coco Chanel says, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” So, save the skanky look for compliments at a party and be more conservative in class. Bermuda shorts are appropriate and comfortable since most shorts are borderline obscene these days. For more fashion tips, tune in to “What Not to Wear” at 9 p.m. Fridays on TLC. Next week, stay tuned for a swimsuit preview. Until then, enjoy the sunshine and stay sophisticated. |
