Graduation raises questions

By Nicole Perry
STAFF WRITER

Graduating from college is what the majority of seniors look forward to after four years of school. For the hundreds of graduating 2008 Brockport seniors, May 17 can’t come soon enough.

Some graduating seniors are moving away from home and immediately starting a job while others stay close to home to save up enough money to either move away and work or to attend graduate school.
“I’m happy about graduating,” senior Jessica Szempruch said.

Graduating may be scary for some students if they do not have a solid plan after graduation.

Even if students don’t want to admit it, some students are terrified of graduation. Some students decide to stay in school to obtain a master’s degree or even go for their master’s degree and work at the same time.

What is there to do after graduation? Graduating from high school is easy, and going to college or joining the army seems like the most logical choice, but graduating from college is different.

Students have to do something — there’s no way around it.

Szempruch already has plans for after graduation.

“Upon graduation, I’m heading to Washington D.C, to work as a nurse at one of the hospitals,” she said.

What about those of us who don’t know? Has anyone ever told you that not everyone finds a job in their field of study? Some people graduate with one degree, then years later in life, go to graduate school.

Students want to be successful in life, though it may come at a cost at starting at the bottom and working up. Not many students are going to be a boss in the business right away — students have to work for success.

With graduation less than one month away, the class of 2008 has a lot of activities to pack in before embarking on a journey into post-college life.
