Not home, sweet home: Eagles winless in Brockport By Chris Winkler After dropping their 2008 home opener, the College at Brockport men’s lacrosse team (5-4, 0-3) lost a low-scoring affair to SUNY Potsdam (6-3, 3-0) on senior night. Brockport fell 6-4, the team’s third straight loss to open SUNYAC play, despite a strong performance in net from Garret Allwes. Allwes made 14 saves, including all six in the fourth quarter to keep the Golden Eagles in the game. Unfortunately for Brockport, they also went scoreless in the fourth quarter and got only one shot on net. Joe Gomez tallied two first-quarter goals to give him six for the season. Adam Drypolcher scored again, giving him 19. He has now scored in all eight games he has played in this year. Drypolcher’s goal gave Brockport a 3-2 lead with 2:15 left in the second quarter. But the Golden Eagles would only get five more shots on net for the rest of the game, including two extra-man opportunities. Brockport went just 1-7 with the extra man throughout the game. Brockport also lost to the Geneseo Knights 16-9 Wednesday, despite career games from Drypolcher and Mike Tammaro. Drypolcher scored a career-high five goals while Tammaro registered a career-high four goals. He added two assists. Geneseo (7-1, 2-0), came in ranked No. 11 in the latest polls and showed why early on. Led by Mike Pizzuto, the Knights tallied four goals in the first six minutes and never relinquished the lead. Pizzuto had three goals and six assists, including getting the assist on each of the first four goals in the first. The Eagles did manage to shut down Pizzuto for the rest of the game until late in the fourth quarter, one of the reasons for a Brockport comeback. Drypolcher’s fourth goal of the game chipped the lead down to 9-7 with 3:25 left to play in the third, but Geneseo came back, scoring twice before the third period ended. After Brockport got the deficit back down to three on Tammaro’s fourth goal with 10 minutes remaining, Pizzuto took the game over for good. He scored twice in a span of 22 seconds to give the Knights a five-goal lead. Brockport will play its final home game of the season versus SUNY Cortland Wednesday, April 16. The Red Dragons are 9-1 on the year, including 3-0 in SUNYAC play. They are the No. 4 ranked team in the country. Cortland has outscored SUNYAC opponents 62-13 in just three games. Their lone loss came against Ithaca in overtime. |
