The Brockport Student Government traveled to the Metro Center in downtown Rochester for a Board of Directors meeting. The meeting discussed the budgets for the Academic and Service councils, as well as the Cultural Clubs and Fine Arts committees’ budgets.
The Academic Council, chaired by Michelle Ford, will receive nearly $46,000 for the 23 clubs in the council. The Criminal Justice Student Association and English club will receive the most for their budgets, each receiving more than $7,000.
The Cultural Club committee, chaired by Rebecca Newberry, will receive nearly $64,000 for its six clubs. The Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) will receive a hefty $17,650 for their 2008-09 budget. The Organization of Students of African Descent (OSAD) and Sexual Orientations for Liberation (SOUL) have also budgeted for a large amount, with approximately $18,900 and $11,300, respectively.
The Fine Arts Committee, chaired by Spencer Crosby, will receive nearly $38,000. The Student Dance Organization will receive more than $16,000 to fund a guest artist and for Dance Awareness days. Brockport Television Club will receive nearly $4,600 to fund its programs, among the other five clubs on the committee.
The Service Committee, chaired by Ryan McPherson, will be receiving $16,400. Students Striving to Educate Peers and IVCF/BASIC will use half of the committees’ budgets, each with more than $4,000.
“I think the budget process went smoothly this year,” McPherson said. “I was very happy with how well things went and I think in the end, the majority of clubs were very happy which is always the most important thing.”
In total, the clubs and organization will have more than $164,000 at their disposal for operating expenses, programs and speakers.
This amount was the last to go through the Appropriations Committee, and will allow BSG Treasurer Kyle Amendola to complete the budget by the next board meeting, April 25. |
