Geneseo breaks down Brockport defense for 16 goals

Despite career games from Adam Drypolcher and Mike Tammaro, the College at Brockport men’s lacrosse team dropped their second straight SUNYAC conference game to Geneseo, 16-9.

Drypolcher, who came into today’s game the top goal-scorer for the Golden Eagles (5-3, 0-2), scored a career-high five goals to give him 18 in just seven games.
With an inactive Pat Reilly, Freshman Mike Tammaro seized the opportunity in just his second start of his career. Like Drypolcher, Tamarro also registered a career-high in goals, with four. He added two assists.

Geneseo (7-1, 2-0), came in ranked No. 11 in the latest polls and showed why early on. Led by Mike Pizzuto, the Knights tallied four goals in the first six minutes and never relinquished the lead. Pizzuto had three goals and six assists, including getting the assist on each of the first four goals in the first.

The Eagles did shut down Pizzuto for the rest of the game until late in the fourth quarter, one of the reasons for a Brockport comeback.

Drypolcher’s fourth goal of the game chipped the lead down to 9-7 with 3:25 left to play in the third, but back came Geneseo scoring twice before the third ended.
After Brockport got the deficit back down to three on Tammaro’s fourth goal with 10 minutes remaining, Pizzuto took the game over for good. He scored twice in a span of 22 seconds to give the Knights a five-goal lead.

Brockport will take on Potsdam at home on Saturday before taking on No. 4 ranked Cortland next Wednesday. Those are the final two home games for the Golden Eagles this season.
