SOUL allows Brockport to release secrets By Amanda Seef Sharing your most inner, deepest secrets for others to see and connect with is the goal of the popular Postsecret.com, though Brockport’s SOUL is bringing a similar program to Brockport. Brockport Secret ends April 23. The program was initiated for National Coming Out day last semester, where students shared their personal secrets. This semester, all students can create a postcard with a secret. The program is 100 percent anonymous. The aim of the program is to promote awareness of other students and the adversities that they face or the secrets that they hold inside them. The secrets will be displayed in the Union on the National Day of Silence, April 25. So far, the program has collected more than 150 secrets from students. The day brings awareness to the lesbian and gay community that have often received harassment, name-calling or bullying due to their sexual orientation. Participants in the program — homosexual or heterosexual — do not speak on the Day of Silence. This year’s day will remember Lawrence King who was killed in February because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. Post cards can be dropped off in the BSG offices in the Union until April 23. Colored index cards are also available in the BSG offices.
