Eagles aggressive in big wins

A word of advice to future opponents of the College at Brockport men’s lacrosse team: timidity isn’t a good game plan.

The Golden Eagles pounced on the Cazenovia Wildcats at both ends of the field, charging inward on offense and attacking outward while on defense in a 11-2 win at Corcoran High School March 29.

Adam Drypolcher and Anthony Ventresca continued their dominant seasons, with Drypolcher netting three goals and Ventresca adding two more.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead, as an impassioned defense led by goaltender Garret Allwes held off the Wildcats long enough for Brockport’s offense to get warmed up.

Ventresca, Mike Tammaro, Drypolcher and Brad Olzinski all scored before Cazenovia could make it onto the scoreboard.

Brockport responded, with Ventresca scoring a goal that prompted one of his teammates to shout, “you make it look easy out there,” during the celebration.

The Golden Eagles’ next goal proved that point, as Drypolcher turned a loose ball into a fast break that ended with another Tammaro goal.

Brockport held a 7-2 lead at halftime, and Cazenovia was not able to get any closer. The Golden Eagles were able to get their reserves into the game while keeping up their offensive and defensive pressure.

Allwes was strong in goal, continuing to play in the way that has kept him in net and out of a platoon. He made seven saves in 51 minutes.

Brockport is 3-1 so far this season, including road wins at Cornell (against Wells College) and in Buffalo (against Medaille).

Drypolcher and Ventresca were the stars against the Medaille Mavericks, as the duo teamed up for seven goals and two assists. Allwes made 11 saves, ensuring that the Mavs wouldn’t force a close game.

Schedule Issues

Brockport has one more non-conference game scheduled this week, a match-up with the Keuka Storm, but weather could force the game to be played away from Special Olympics Stadium.

A storm could keep the Golden Eagles from playing the Storm, but weather will not slow the approach of conference play. Brockport’s SUNYAC opener is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, a road game at the Oswego Lakers.

The Lakers are currently 1-5, with close losses to SUNY Maritime and Utica. Both teams will be looking to get their season started, but right now it looks like the sun — if it ever comes out — will be shining on the Golden Eagles.
