The College at Brockport gymnastics team finished their 2007-08 season with a second-place finish at the National Collegiate Gymnatics Association National Championships.

Wisconsin-La Crosse took the team championship, but Brockport’s showing was no less impressive. The Golden Eagles won six individual All-American awards, including three for Lauren Gildemeyer.

Gildemeyer tied a career-high in the floor excercise to win the national championship, as her 9.85 put her a step above the rest of the field. Gildemeyer also made it to the finals in the vault, where the sophomore finished in seventh place with a 9.575. Gildemeyer also finished third in the all-around.

Gildemeyer’s performance was a good one to end a year on, but the season may not be over. She was selected as the first alternate for the Division I Northeast Regional Championship in the floor excercise. The event will be held April 12 and 13 at Penn State.

Christina Bagetta and Nicole Horodyski were both All-American performers on the uneven parallel bars. Both Bagetta and Horodyski finished with a 9.65 score, tying one another for fourth place. The total was a career-high for both gymnasts and the mark moves the duo into third place in school history.

Bagetta also made it to the finals in the floor excercise. Competing against a diverse and talented field, Bagetta managed to take 12th place with a 9.125 score.

Natalie Lipshutz was Brockport’s representative on the balance beam, where her 9.475 score moved her into a tie for ninth place.

Nikki Fisher earned an “All-American in Academics” award, as the senior student-athlete joined a field of 30 NCGA competitors who excelled both in competition and in the classroom.
