Dupuis and O'Keeffe head to nationals For many track and field athletes, spring break is a chance to look back at the indoor season, while making preparations for the fast-approaching outdoor season. Shannon O’Keeffe and Josh Dupuis are not like most track and field athletes. O’Keeffe and Dupuis will represent the College at Brockport track and field team at the Division III Track and Field Championsip this weekend, with both likely to earn a well-deserved spot among the nation’s elite. O’Keeffe heads to the competition as the top seed in the women’s triple jump, with a top distance of 11.79 meteres. “She’s worked very hard this year,” Brockport track and field head coach Mark Krueger said. “She has the ability to do well at whatever she puts her focus into.” Krueger said that O’Keeffe will perform well despite being the top seed — and the target of other competitors. “To go into nationals as the No. 1 seed can be a mental challenge, but I know Shannon will be up to it,” he said. “Josh has had an up and down season, but he’s on the way up at this point,” Krueger said. “He is a real competitor, someone who rises to the challenge.” Krueger said Dupuis will succeed after going through similiar scenarios. “He’s done this each time he’s gone to nationals, which has resulted in three All-American plaques,” Krueger said. “I know he is capable of much, much better. It’s going to be fun to watch.” |
