Greece Mall takes on minor policy

Another social norm has been quelled, as Greece Ridge Mall has restricted the entrance of some patrons.

Beginning March 28, anyone under the age of 19 will be required to have a parental escort into the mall after 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

There will be security guards throughout the mall to check the IDs of those who appear to be under the age of 19.
Though most of the College at Brockport population is currently over the age of 19, this may pose a problem for most freshmen and some sophomores.

Currently, the shuttle bus leaves as late as 4:30 p.m. Saturdays from on-campus locations for Greece Ridge Mall.

“We feel that this new policy will enhance the shopping experience for our customers, as well as create an environment for families to come together on the weekends,” said Melanie Fazio, marketing director for The Mall at Greece Ridge.

Currently, Carousel Center in Syracuse has an under-18 policy in effect. The policy went into effect in 2003, and minors must have an adult accompany them between the shopping hours of 4 to 9:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Though the policy seems to be working to curb destruction and violence in the city of Syracuse, there have been numerous fights and outbreaks of violence by minors within these hours. An additional mall in Buffalo, owned by the same company as Carousel Center, has the same policy in effect.
