BSG campaigning starts
By Amanda Seef

Tuesday, March 25 marked the beginning of change within Brockport Student Government, as the candidates for the '08-'09 administration began campaigning. Kyle Amendola, the current BSG Treasurer, and Darnell Pierce, the incumbent, have moved forward for their bid to claim the student-elected seat next year.

As a graduate student, Pierce served as President for the past year, and is running with current Academic Council Representative Michelle Ford. Collectively, the duo has five years of combined experience within BSG.

"We want to be as interactive as possible to make the rest of this year and all of next year a blast by serving you to the fullest and doing what you want," a Facebook event for the duo read.

Amendola will be joining the campaign with Bill Keating, an off-campus representative and member of the Board of Directors. Campaigning began early for the duo, with online advertising, table fliers and posters posted by noon the first day of campaigning. Their slogan, "Next year will be better," promises students radical, organized change in BSG, citing an Open-Door Policy and better promotions.

Lindsay Geyer, an off-campus representative, and Randall Franklin, the current Vice President, have bids for the Treasurer position.

On-campus and off-campus positions are not contested. The candidates are freshmen Paul Giglio and Clayton Santic for on-campus representatives, and Rich Jebo, Jeff Scansuzo and Nate Casillo for off-campus representatives.

Voting will begin April 7.

BSG needs your imput
By The Stylus Editorial Board

The members of the Brockport Student Government board face many tough decisions, but we as students are the ones whose opinion matters most. Although the board has shown that they have no problem wielding their power, it is our voice that is supposed to be spoken through their votes. But when we refuse to raise our voices, decisions can go in directions that benefit no one.

The vote on transferring funds for the spring concert was a difficult decision for the 12 voting members present at the March 7 board meeting. The transfer meant being able to have the typical spring concert and Brock the Port, or having a downsized version of both — or perhaps not one of the events at all. If the vote had not gone through, BSG would be stuck, looking for ways to bring about funds to keep students happy.

Ah, body art — almost always igniting lively and controversial conversations. Tattoos and piercing, whether you have them or not, have probably made their way into your mind or conversation at some point.

There are three tattoo studios in Brockport: Pink Armadillo (previously known as Extreme Graphix), at 5 Market St., Bare Apple Art Tattoo, at 14 Market St., and Go Ask Alice, at 73 Main St.

It seems that today all the rage is once someone comes up with an original idea, everyone begins to follow suit, transforming the personal masterpiece into a full-blown trend. Read More

Brockport wins ECAC Upstate Championship
By Michael Thayer

The last time the Brockport Golden Eagles squared off with the Cardinals from St. John Fisher in the post-season, it was in the NCAA Sweet 16 last season. This year, both teams missed their ticket to the big dance, but found themselves in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament.

The Golden Eagles, the top seed in the seven-team tournament, received a first-round bye, giving them an automatic trip to the Semi-final round. St. John Fisher had to go through Vassar College Wednesday, Feb. 5, as they topped the Brewers 68-65.

Brockport had won the last two meetings between the team, dating back to the 105-91 win in the Big Dance last season, and squeaking out an 88-87 win over the Cardinals in the first round of the JP Morgan Chase Tournament this season. Saturday night, the results were the same, with Brockport coming from behind, after giving up the lead, to top St. John Fisher 81-80. Read More
