Indoor track teams place high at States By Jim Krencik Shannon O’Keeffe earned a State Championship in the triple jump, and College at Brockport indoor track and field teams cleared the competition at the New York State Track Conference Championships this weekend at St. Lawrence University. The women’s team earned a fifth-place finish, while the men’s team took sixth place at the statewide competition. O’Keeffe climbed the medal stand enough times to get a decent leg workout, getting four top-five finishes. Her highest climb came after she leaped to a first-place finish in the triple jump with a 37’ 1 3/4” landing. O’Keeffe also was the lead runner on the second-place 4x200-meter relay team. Randi DeBoy, Amanda Elias and Jenny Ruhlman finished the final three legs of the race with speed, finishing at 1:47.18. The 4x400-yard relay team of DeBoy, Christine Reamer, O’Keeffe and Elias nabbed fourth place with a 4:05.22 finish. The men’s team was led by a trio of second-place finishers. Joe Hitchcock placed second in the high jump with a 6’ 3 1/4”clearance. The Golden Eagles’ throwers also grabbed silver, with Josh Dupuis taking second in the shot put with a 52’ 10” throw and Dom Gonzalez finishing second in the weight throw, tossing the weight 55’ 2”. The women’s team also grabbed several individual second-place finishes. DeBoy was the second-best in the 400-meter race, finishing at 1:00.16. Elias was second in the 800-meter race, finishing with a time of 2:16.91, while Kelsey Conn placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:54.25. The pentathlon competition, which started last weekend, conluded with Ashley Mrozek taking second with a score of 2,653 points. James Kennedy placed fourth for the men with a total of 3,107 points. |
