University Police arrested a Batavia resident on first degree rape charges Feb. 24, after an incident in the freshman and transfer dormitory, Dobson.

Anthony Dibble was charged with first-degree rape and later arraigned in Town of Sweden Town Court. Dibble was reprimanded to Monroe County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

The Stylus does not name the victims of sexual assault in order to protect their anonymity and privacy.

The suspect became acquainted with the victim earlier in the evening, Feb. 23. Dibble is not enrolled at Brockport, but was visiting a friend in Dobson Hall. He was signed into the room where the victim did not reside. The report was filed around 3 a.m., and an arrest was made within 15 minutes.

Charges of first-degree rape imply that the act was forcible, though the suspect allegedly did not forcibly enter the room of the victim.

According to the Web site of the Counseling Center, Rape is second only to murder among national crimes. It is estimated that for every reported rape, at least another 10 will go unreported.
