Activities in March keep students active until spring By Tasia Hardy The events for March are going to keep you so busy, it will take away the ache in your heart for warm, sunny weather. By the time March is over, you will have had an event-filled month and spring should be here. For all you theater lovers, Brockport’s first production of the semester, Dancing at Lughnasa opened Saturday, March 1. Performances will run through Saturday, March 8. Also, Friday, March 7, Avenue Q, a hit broadway musical will be in Buffalo. The shuttle departs at 6:30 p.m. from the Gallery Lounge and Gameroom. Tickets are available at the BSG Box Office for $10. International Education London Night will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at the Seymour College Union in room 185. Interested in tie-dying, but don’t want to wait until summer to dye a shirt outside? Tie Dye Night will be 9:15 to 10:45 p.m. in the Gallery Thursday, March 6. Saturday, March 8 is going to be a big day for events. Take some time and get into shape. Go see the men’s club volleyball team win their way to the championship from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Tuttle South. The Ninth Annual S.O.U.L. Drag Show will be in the Seymour College Union Ballroom during the evening. There will be a Weekend Getaway for Brockport Midnight Bowling. The shuttle departs at 11 p.m. and tickets are only $5. The beginning of March is a time for fine arts. From March 5 to March 30, the College at Brockport Art Department Faculty Exhibition will open to the community. Exhibits will include painting, ceramics and printmaking. Also, Music at Noon will take place at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 in the Drake Memorial Library. The Chalumeau Quartet, a clarinet ensemble composed of former music teachers in the area, will treat the audience with selections by Ellington and Jopline. Wednesday, March 12 will be the opening of Kim Chesterton’s art exhibit in the Tower Rainbow Gallery. Also, the cast of “I Love New York 2” will make a campus visit to Brockport in the Seymour College Union Ballroom. Shamrock cookie decorating will also take place in the Gallery various times throughout the day. Jimmy Buffet Beach Night will begin at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, March 13 in the Gallery. The Iron Chef Competion will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 at Brockway and Harrison Dining Halls. A presentation, The Female Orgasm, will take place at 8 p.m. in the Ballroom. If you’re looking for some history and literature, the Susan B. Anthony lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 in room 220 of the Union. Derek Nikitas will be reading selections from his works as a part of the Writer’s Forum as well. Thursday, March 27 is the perfect day to go dancing and eat food. The International Festival will once again provide culture and great food from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Ballroom. After some food, go country line dancing in the Gallery at 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, check out the RPO Marimba Band at Tower Mainstage or visit the Strong Museum of Play as a part of the Weekend Getaway. With something for everyone, there is no way a Brockport student will be bored during March while they patiently wait for spring to arrive. |
