Polar Plunge concert awarded to Brockport

Annual spring concert hosted by BSG potentially cancelled due to budget issues

The Brockport Student Government’s budgetary problems are potentially preventing the organization from hosting a stand-alone spring semester concert, but a fundraising success means that the campus will not go silent of live music.

Lady Antebellum will be the first country music band in recent memory to perform on campus Feb. 28, with a free concert at the Seymour College Union Ballroom. The up-and-coming Georgia-based band’s single “Love Don’t Live Here” peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Country Charts, with a full-length debut and a tour with Martina McBride due for the spring. Brockport provides well-rounded education

But students question general education requirements

As we’ve been registering for our classes for this spring semester, we’ve noticed a part of the curriculum that has pained us since we were freshmen here at Brockport — the general education requirements.

While these requirements may be the same for all SUNY schools, and we’re all for a well-rounded curriculum and learning experience, we just can’t help but notice these requirements seem to fall short in many different areas. Read More

Artists portray quilt innovation and creativity

Over the past weekend I had the opportunity to see two exhibits at the Memorial Art Gallery: Wild by Design: Two Hundred Years of Innovation and Artistry in American Quilts and Thinking on Paper: Preparatory Drawings from the Collection of the Memorial Art Gallery.

First up was Wild by Design, a collection which features 25 quilts created by American women from the early 1800s to the present day. On my way to the museum, all I could think about was the longstanding notion of tradition and quilting. The idea that a quilt is something that endures time — an heirloom which is meant to be treasured and cherished. It is a special gift that becomes increasingly meaningful. Read More

Eagles unseat Cortland as SUNYAC's top team

The College at Brockport women’s basketball team is the new front-runner in the SUNYAC playoff race, but this week’s action proved this battle is still too close to call.

An incredible comeback pushed the Golden Eagles into the top spot, but an inexcusable loss kept Brockport from getting too far ahead of their rivals.

The Golden Eagles rallied to beat the Cortland Red Dragons 84-76 Tuesday, Feb. 5 in an intense game between the top teams in the SUNYAC’s two divisions. Read More
