Night in Tuttle is an event staged every year which tries to grab the attention of eager new students and to convince them to join a club, organization or program. Last Thursday, it didn’t matter whether it was a sports club, an academic club or one of interest. There was a whole gymnasium worth to choose from.

This year’s event was sponsored by various clubs on campus including Brockport Student Government (BSG), and Recreational Servicesm and was held Thursday, Aug. 30 in Tuttle North Gyms from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.
“We get hundreds of students,” Coordinator of Intramural and Club Sports, Robert Pauly said.
The event was a huge success, drawing in those hundreds of students from different majors to check out all the great clubs that SUNY Brockport had to offer. The night served to provide students with information about the clubs in hopes to get them to join.
Aside from the various clubs, other attractions were there as well, including inflatable laser tag arena, fast pitch and an inflatable jousting. And you can’t forget the pizza which was provided to all who attended the event.
The night didn’t end with just the information that was given out. Throughout the night, prizes were being given away based on a raffle that you received upon entrance. In order to receive your prize, you had to present your winning ticket to the deejay of the night. Prizes included board games, movie passes and school essentials.
By the end of the night, tickets had to be called more than once because most people had gotten the information they needed and decided not to stick around any longer than they had to.
The BSG tables had an inflatable telephone booth that dispensed paper money. One of the tables was raffling off a basket of beach stuff and the Judo and Tae Kwon Do tables had demonstrations going showing what they’ve learned so far. They demonstrated their skills to anyone who would watch them every 20 minutes or so and did a good job too.
“There’s more out there other than going to class,” Tae Kwon Do Instructor Michael Jones said.
Some of the clubs at the Night in Tuttle included sports clubs such as Women’s Rugby, Men’s Ice Hockey and dance, with academic clubs like Marketing Club and Communications Club. Several fraternities and sororities were there also.
If you’re a student who missed the event and wants to get involved, just look around campus for flyers that various clubs have put up and go participate or try something new.
